Prince's Grant Golf Club, one of South Africa's premier golf and housing developments is situated 45 minutes north of Durban. Once a sugarcane plantation, this course rests on a stunning site with sweeping views of the Indian Ocean. Ranked among the top twenty courses in the country, it is regarded as one of Peter Matkovich's finest links-type designs. The backdrop of the ocean on this 'Dolphin Coast' course offers special challenges to the golfer, especially those used to parkland and mountain ranges. The expanse of the sea has none of the natural markers of trees and hills of the kind golfers use to judge distances.
The course is situated on the north coast of KwaZulu-Natal, 75 km north of Durban's city centre. Fashioned out of the indigenous coastal bush; with its dunes, humps and hollows the course has many characteristics of a typical British style links course. The course is well groomed and picturesque with many of the holes offering spectacular views of the rolling coastline. The par five 15th hole runs parallel with the coastline resulting in sublime views of the coastline all the way down to Umhlanga. The bunkers and thick bush on many of the holes require the golfer to play exacting tee shots. The clubhouse and lodge are rare examples of authentic colonial architecture and the 19th hole, Mulligan's bar with its panoramic views is the ideal place to enjoy your after round refreshments.

| Additional Information: |
The Selborne golf course maintains the fine balance between challenging the low handicapper and providing the average player with a fulfilling experience. Selborne is set in the rolling hills of Kwazulu-Natal's South Coast. It is built on land that used to be a thriving dairy farm. When the owner Denis Barker decided to turn the farm into a golf estate he initially consulted a golf architect but eventually decided to design the course on his own. Completed in 1987 the course has matured to be one of South Africa's most attractive courses.
Water comes into play on just about every hole of the 18-hole par 72 Selborne golf course. One of the signature holes of the course is the par four 18th hole. The hole measures 271 meters from the back markers to the flagstick. It is best negotiated with nothing more than a mid-iron from the tee to avoid its hazards. This hole is a good example of Barker's non-confirmative design. Huge indigenous trees flanking fairways and the backdrop of the Indian Ocean makes for a very picturesque course.

The rich wildlife sanctuary surrounding the golf course is home to the Big Five, an enormous variety of birds and countless animals, providing the visitor with a harmonious, close-to-nature golfing experience. Since the course is not fenced in, uninvited spectators are common sights. The golf course was built in 1972 as a recreational facility for Park staff. While the graceful and curious giraffe may stop by to thoroughly analyse the arc of your swing, the grazing Impala may simply not pay attention at all. |
