White Elephant Lodge

Location

The lodge is easily accessible from Johannesburg and Durban, being situated directly adjacent to the main N2 east coast route, between Mkuze village and Pongola. Maputoland and northern Zululand contain some of southern Africa's most diverse and unspoilt wilderness areas and include proclaimed nature areas, such as Ndumu Game Reserve, Kosi Bay, Tembe Elephant Reserve and Mkuzi Game reserve.

Attractions

The Pongola Game Reserve is sanctuary to a large variety of wildlife species, including giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, impala, hyena, buffalo and leopard. Due to the diversity of habitat, the variety of birdlife is prolific, with in excess of 350 species recorded.

Facilities

White Elephant Lodge is a luxury 16 bedded lodge, which offers every comfort for your sojourn in the African wilderness. The lodge was originally built in the late 1920's and has now been carefully renovated to preserve the turn of the century ambience. The colonial style safari lodge comprises a central reception area, dining room and lounge with a magnificent veranda, a swimming pool and outside dining area. The eight twin-bedded safari style tents each with en-suite colonial bathroom, outdoor shower, private veranda and mini-bar, capture the very essence of the 'Out of "Africa" experience. The cuisine is superb, with traditional African flavour and in keeping with the finest safari resorts in southern Africa. There is also a Bush Camp which offers seven luxury chalets and the same activities as the Safari Lodge.

Additional Information

Game drives are conducted in open 4x4 vehicles with professional guides. Walking trails are very much part of the White Elephant experience. Guests will also be afforded the opportunity of participating in the elephant monitoring programme by both vehicle and on foot. Boating activities, including early morning game viewing cruises and late afternoon sunset excursions are operated daily. The Jozini Lake offers spectacular freshwater fishing opportunities, including tiger fishing and can be considered a comparative location to Lake Kariba.
