Attractions

Historically, this land North of the Pongola River, used to be part of Swaziland. In 1894 Paul Kruger proclaimed this area a game reserve - The Pongola Game Reserve. Bordering Swaziland and Maputaland, Shayamoya is ideal for those discovering this pristine tourist area of abundant bird life, game, turtle nestings, scuba diving, 4x4 adventures and of course those hooked on fishing. The Pongolapoort Lake, which covers 12 000 hectares is the only lake in South Africa which is home to tiger fish.

Facilities

Shayamoya consists of eight elegantly appointed chalets with private decks. Well-manicured pathways link the chalets with the central lodge and while strolling from the chalets, you may come across the grey duiker, zebra and guineafowl that roam around the lodge. Guests gather in the central lodge to share their happy experiences and partake of the sumptuous meals with a South African flavour, or an outdoor traditional braai (bar-b-que).

Additional Information

Game drives, boat cruises, bird watching, guided walks, elephant tracking excursions, river canoeing trips, tiger fishing trips and the hire of fishing rods, ski boats and mountain bikes are all on offer at Shayamoya.
